Accessibility Statement

Kifaru Coffee is committed to providing a fully accessible website experience for all users of all abilities, including those who rely on assistive technologies like screen readers, screen enlargement software, and alternative keyboard input devices to navigate the web.
Ongoing Efforts to Ensure Accessibility
We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 as our guiding principle for determining accessibility. These are internationally agreed-upon standards that cover a wide range of recommendations and best practices for making content useable. As we add new pages and functionality to our website, all designs, code, and content entry practices are checked against these standards.
Website accessibility is an ongoing process. We continually test content and features for WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance and remediate any issues to ensure we meet or exceed the standards. Testing of our website is performed by our web developer using industry-standard tools such as the Accessibility Checker WordPress Plugin, color contrast analyzers, keyboard-only navigation techniques, and Flesch-Kincaid readability tests.
Accessibility Features On Our Website
The following is a list of items we have included in our website to improve its accessibility:
- Skip to content link – A keyboard-accessible skip link is automatically included, allowing keyboard and screen reader users to bypass navigation and jump directly to the main content.
- Semantic HTML5 structure – The site uses proper HTML5 landmark elements (<header>, <nav>, <main>, <section>, <footer>) so assistive technologies can accurately identify and navigate page regions.
- Logical heading hierarchy – Headings are structured sequentially (H1, H2, H3) to give screen reader users a clear and predictable content structure.
- Keyboard navigation – All interactive elements, including links, buttons, and navigation menus, are fully accessible via keyboard alone.
- Visible focus indicators – Focused elements display clear visual indicators so keyboard users can always see where they are on the page.
- High-contrast color scheme – Text and background color combinations meet the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text.
- Descriptive image alt text – All meaningful images include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked to be ignored by screen readers.
- ARIA labels on interactive elements – Where necessary, ARIA attributes are applied to interactive components to communicate their purpose and state to assistive technologies.
- Responsive, scalable design – The site uses REM units for font sizing, meaning text scales correctly when a user increases their browser’s default font size, with no loss of content or functionality.
- Descriptive link text – Links use clear, purposeful text rather than vague phrases, so screen reader users understand a link’s destination before following it.
- No reliance on color alone – Color is never used as the only means of conveying information, instructions, or feedback.
- No auto-playing media – The site contains no audio or video content that plays automatically.
Where We’re Improving
In our efforts to bring our website up to standard, we are targeting the following areas:
- Embedded map accessibility – Third-party maps (such as Google Maps iframes) may not be fully operable by keyboard or screen reader. We are reviewing how this content is presented and adding appropriate alternatives where possible.
- Image alt text review – We are conducting an ongoing review of all image alt text to ensure descriptions are consistently accurate and sufficiently detailed.
- Mobile menu focus management – We are reviewing the behaviour of the mobile navigation menu to ensure focus is correctly managed when it opens and closes.
This is part of our broader effort to make everyone’s experience at Kifaru Coffee a welcoming and enjoyable one. Please note that while we make every effort to provide information accessible for all users, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of third party websites to which we may link.
