Our story

Born on the road, brewed with purpose

The name Kifaru – the Swahili word for Rhino – is more than just our brand. Kifaru is a personal tribute to conservation, inspired by my husband’s parents and their dedicated work protecting these magnificent creatures in East Africa.

The rhino is the cornerstone of its ecosystem, and we carry that same spirit of strength and stewardship into everything we do – striving to be a grounding presence in our community, serving specialty coffee that honors its origins.

By choosing a name rooted in the landscapes of East Africa – the very birthplace of coffee – we connect the craft of a perfect pour to a story of preservation and family heritage. And by planting that story here in the Texas Hill Country, we get to share it with a community that genuinely cares about where things come from and why they matter.

Every cup we serve is a small part of that connection – from the plains of East Africa to the streets of Austin, brewed with intention and served with pride.
